Villas

I had always wanted to stay at Carter Creek Winery Resort & Spa, where the villas are nestled right alongside the winery, brewery, restaurant, and spa. I first got a preview of the resort while it was still under construction, and ever since, it’s been on my list. Recently, I finally had the chance to stay there on a Saturday night.

We started the day by visiting Charleston Taylor Estate during their soft opening, then enjoyed a delicious crawfish boil at 12 FIRES Winery & Vineyard. Carter Creek was the perfect place to stay since it’s right next door to 12 FIRES.

Winery Tasting Room

Winery Tasting Room

After checking in and dropping our bags off in our villa, one of the 78 available, we headed to the winery tasting room to enjoy some award-winning Texas wines. The wines are crafted by winemaker Jon McPherson, who brings over 40 years of winemaking experience. You might recognize his name. His father, Dr. Clinton A. “Doc” McPherson, along with Robert R. Reed, helped launch the modern Texas wine industry by planting grapes, making wine, and founding Llano Estacado Winery. Doc McPherson is also the father of Kim McPherson of McPherson Cellars and Jon, who is the winemaker not only at Carter Creek but also at South Coast Winery Resort & Spa and Carter Estate Winery in Temecula, California.

We sat outside the tasting room to soak in the beautiful weather and sip our wine. If you’re a wine club member, there’s also an exclusive tasting room just for you. The resort features a large central pavilion and an outdoor event center that regularly hosts live music.

Old 290 Brewery & Restaurant

Old 290 Brewery & Restaurant

After our tasting, we headed to the Old 290 Brewery & Restaurant on-site, which offers both craft beer from the microbrewery and wine from Carter Creek with your meal. Since we had filled up at the crawfish boil earlier, we shared a meal and still left satisfied.

As the evening set in, it was time to relax, so the outdoor spa was calling our name. We put on our swimsuits and joined a few other guests in the hot tub next to the heated outdoor pool. The spa building also houses a fitness center for guests looking to get in a workout during their stay.

Back in the villa, we enjoyed the cozy living room, complete with a couch, table and chairs, and television. It was perfect for sipping a bottle of Carter Creek’s Texas wine while winding down. If it had been cooler, we could’ve flipped on the electric fireplace for a little extra comfort. The bedroom included another television, a mini-fridge, a coffee maker, and an in-room safe. The furnishings were plush and comfortable, and we had a great night’s sleep.

The onsite restaurant also serves breakfast in the mornings, which is a nice perk. We had hoped to fit in a massage at the spa before leaving but had other plans that morning. The spa offers a variety of therapeutic treatments for a relaxing escape. We’ll look forward to that on our next visit!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Carter Creek Winery Resort & Spa and can’t wait to return.
