My, what a beautiful new tasting room Peters Prairie Vineyard recently opened the last weekend in June. I absolutely loved their beautiful new tasting room which has relocated from their original spot on the downtown Mason square to a lovely country setting. Their new location is larger and has ample outdoor space providing customers a chance to spread out and enjoy their wines while overlooking their estate vineyard and the beauty of the country setting.
A gorgeous location right outside of Mason that is breezy, quiet, comfortable, and simply delightful is in store for those venturing out to visit. Their new address is 9872 N US Highway 87, Mason, Texas 76856. It is appointed in comfortable rustic country contemporary details.
As you pull into the parking lot you see the large vineyard to the right of the tasting room and lots of tall shady trees providing ample shade for your vehicle. This new location has a lovely, shaded patio to the right of the building overlooking the vineyard.
As you enter the tasting room you immediately notice the rustic windmill top that creates a separation between the front living room comfy sofa seating area and the back of the space featuring a high-top tasting table and a shop wall featuring caps, shirts, snacks, and assorted goodies for purchase. The inside features high ceilings and ample seating spaces for large and smaller groups of people. There is even a second story that overlooks the main room below that has the potential to be an additional tasting space or more private space in the future.
The tasting bar is located towards the back of the spacious room next to the back door that leads to a large back patio and additional seating spaces. Beyond the backyard seating are additional vineyard plantings that create a nice backdrop for those choosing to take their wine outside to enjoy the beautiful surrounding vineyard.
The current tasting menu features 10 wines, with a white, three rosés, and six reds. The white is their 2020 Pinot Grigio, which is crisp and refreshing with subtle citrus notes. The rosés are a 2020 Syrah Rosé, 2022 Mourvèdre Rosé, and 2020 Bubbly Syrah Rosé. I enjoyed a glass of the Bubbly Syrah Rosé and enjoyed the tiny bubbles and soft salmon color of this wine. Served chilled, this bubbly is both crisp and fruity and incredibly satisfying when trying to cool off on a hot Texas summer afternoon.
The reds featured a 2019 and 2020 Barbera. Both were sourced from the same vineyard nearby in Mason and although I preferred the 2019, a bit more, they were both great options. A 2019 Tempranillo, 2019 Malbec, 2019 Syrah, and their 2020 Chaparral Red blend rounded out the menu. Their Tempranillos were on point and the Syrah was super smooth and simply a delightful sipper worth savoring. The Chaparral Red seemed sweet due to the fruit-forward nature of this blend, though it is not. It made this bottle a great summer red and option for your next fancy barbeque.
So, what are you waiting for? Pack a picnic lunch, grab some friends and family, and make plans to drive to Mason to swing by and visit this new location to enjoy some fabulous wines, great customer service, and the laid-back atmosphere of living the good life in Mason amid the Hickory Sands terroir. I think you will find a lot to like here. Well worth your time to stop in and visit, and tell them you heard about them from Texas Wine Lover.
