When it comes to various styles of wine, many people love a glass of sparkling wine. To the non-wine aficionado, a sparkling wine most likely is referred to as champagne but that word can only be used for the sparkling wines made in the Champagne region in France. Me? I just call it bubbles.
Different businesses are taking advantage of the increased popularity of sparkling wine. Elisa Christopher Wines is producing sparkling wine using the same method as Champagne which is the traditional method or méthode traditionelle. Heath Sparkling Wines has been producing sparkling wine for a few years in Fredericksburg.
Now in downtown Fredericksburg is the tasting room of Six Twists which offers a dedicated sparkling wine experience. They have obtained sparkling wines from around the world and offer tastings and glasses of bubbles. Why the name of Six Twists? Next time you twist off the wire cage of a bottle of sparkling wine, count the number of times you twist the wire – six!

Andre Boada, Melissa and Bobby Humphries
Six Twists is owned by Bobby and Melissa Humphries along with Andre Boada. Bobby and Andre hold wine certifications, so they have the skills and are readily available to guide your sparkling wine experience.
I visited Six Twists on a recent trip to Fredericksburg and was able to meet all three owners. I was given a tour of the tasting room which has different rooms available that can be reserved for private events. The first room is the Bubble room which can be reserved for eight or more people. The Magnum room has a long table and Bobby will be teaching Sparkling 101 classes there soon.
Even though the tasting room features sparkling wines, there are a few still wines available, including some Texas wines, because there may be a chance that a person visiting may not care for sparkling wine. Besides wine, Six Twists also offers small bites and different caviars.
Tasting flights of four wines are available and these were the flights available when I visited:
- Champagne
- World Tour – visit four regions through sparkling wine
- French Crémant
- Spanish – Cava vs Corpinnat
- Regional Italian Styles
- Wild Card – unusual and fun varietals and regions
I enjoyed taking the World Tour which took me through Italy with Glera, Spain with Cava, South Africa with an Ultra Brut, and then France with Champagne. It was a great tour, and I didn’t even need to leave Texas. It was also the first time I tasted an Ultra Brut.
If you’re like me and love bubbles, make a point to visit Six Twists the next time you’re in Fredericksburg.
