290 Wine Castle outside

Immerse yourself into an unforgettable wine experience at the 290 Wine Castle at Chateau de Chasse. This medieval-style castle majestically overlooks the 290 Wine Trail in Johnson City. Castles have forever intrigued our spirits by invoking romance and marvel with secret tunnels, dungeons, and castle towers. As you cross over the moat, you will begin a one of a kind wine experience in the Texas Hill Country.

Owners Mike and Monique Chase’s dream to give wine lovers a unique experience in the Texas Hill Country has come true.

Recently, we had a sneak-peak of what experiences will await you behind the castle doors. I predict this will soon become a very popular draw for weekend wine getaways, weddings, and for those seeking a respite from the usual.

290 Wine Castle tasting bar

A visual and sensory experience awaits you in the castle that is nestled high and overlooking the Texas Hill Country.

The preview party did not disappoint! From the view atop the castle to the boutique Old World wines to enjoying a unique chocolate and wine pairing taste sensation in the dungeon, this medieval-style castle proves to be a unique experience. The wine menu features thoughtfully selected Old World and New World wines from around the world. The Chases also plan to produce their own high quality wines in the near future. The castle is sitting on 11 acres with newly planted vines of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc that will be ready for harvest in three to five years.

290 Wine Castle tasting room

We were greeted with a bubbly glass of Spanish Cava Rosé from the wine collection while listening to music from a grand piano. We sampled the wines at the very spacious wine tasting bar and noshed on charcuterie and cheese plates.

290 Wine Castle glass of wine

We were led to the top of the castle where we got a 360 degree view of the gorgeous Hill Country and then led to the dark dungeon were we enjoyed glasses of Spanish wine and chocolate. The dungeon was a nice surprise of multiple rooms set up with medieval style furniture for small wine tasting events. You will love it! I am not supposed to tell you about the “secret door,” so you’ll be surprised when go through it!

Grand Opening for the 290 Wine Castle is Saturday, October 27th.
